    Re: Different cast's

I think most people use a variation of Rookie's 4 key slide casting, but Some people use a circular cast pattern.

    Re: Different cast's

There are many many different ways.... Fast casts, delay casts, circle casts, speed casts, arc slide casts, all of which have many different variations.

But I would not say there is necessarily a "best cast". Simply because it depends on your opponent. Choosing the correct cast to counter and time your opponents movement is key. If you simply do the same cast over and over, you become easy to predict and time. Developing a good cast is not just about the knowing what keys another mage pushes in order to fast cast...

I would just recommend creating your own. Bind your keys and do what is comfortable.

    Re: Different cast's

Effectively there is an infinite variety of casts. In practice all casts consist on certain movements (sliding laterally, curved inward, curved outward) and then certain effects (pausing, holding spacbar, animation break releases, tapping a directional/strafe key).

"Best" depends on the cast of your opponent.

so this is the same as C then W+D

    then z then W + D

    then W + Z?

I think so, assuming you have your keys bound that way for movement.

    I don't.

you use the arrow keys for movement instead of ASWD? How do you use a mouse then if your right hand is using the arrow keys (just curious)

maybe he is left handed, but actually I don't think most people use a mouse when fighting at all. It's WAXDZC (or in my case, WADSZC) and then end/delete/page down/ page up/ insert / page up keys to select spells. Use numpad to switch camera.

Sometimes more complicated casts require you to switch your right hand to the arrow keys.. For example delay casting is something like this..

    Power slide left
    Z, D, W

    Power slide back right
    C, A, W

Delay by first turning right away from target a bit (d key)
    Then...

hold Z, S (or X for back if you have default binding)

while alternating these to hold the spell and glitch in place

C, up, C, up, C, up (right hand useful here)

then to release the spell, release all keys first then...

    left/right slowly to face target.

I'm sure there are many variations of this.

I don't use a mouse normaly in combat. Much quicker to use hotkeys with both hands on the board.

    Re: Different cast's

I'm not talking about PVP here but I can not remember the last time I used a mouse in combat .. I very rarley use it at all .. its just to slow ... key strokes are much quicker ... I'm on a laptop with a "glide pad" so that makes it a pain in the patoos ... giving items to town crier or putting things in a trade window feels like you are made of lead .... i accidently gave 999 tapers to the town crier ... lag was really bad and the cursor was not wanting to move smoothly ... and the motion of sliding your finger accross the glide pad meant I picked up the wrong thing... lucky is was only tapers ....

anyhoo ... all that to say I rarely use the mouse :-)
