December, 2003: Waking From The Abyss

As the festival season continues in Dereth, a chill is in the air and autumn is slowly turning into winter. Lets take a look at some of the changes that are coming in the December event!

Lytelthorpe was a bustle of activity. In the past week, Selflora had counted five separate expeditions of Guards passing through the town. It was a good sign. It meant that Elysa was alive and well, and if the way the guards were talking was any indication of things to come, she had remembered what it was like at the start.

Waking From The Abyss
Winters touch arrived gently, ushering the festival season toward a close. As I moved through the world, watching it march toward its icy slumber, chill air gave birth to flakes of snow that landed on the earth to form a frosty blanket. The world grew darker as the winter months encroached and the sunsets came earlier. I felt the darkness closing in around me like grievers ready to feast.

What? the barkeep asked. He looked the vagrant up and down, careful to note that this wasnt the typical dog-tired patron he saw. Still, there was a haggard look to this one. The travelers eyes were deep set, as though he hadnt slept in months, and his face was pale and thin. He looked half-dead to the barkeep. Then again, there were many men like this wandering around Dereth. But this was a little different.

Visions In The Darkness
Winter fast approaches, now. The festival season begins, but a melancholy permeates the crisp air. Something is happening in the dark corners of Dereth and its subtle evidence can be found all across the land. Reports of disappearances, shady travelers and a war brewing in the Valley of Death spread. Adventurers search through ruins uncovered by dust storms and new tunnels shaped of earth.

As the forces of Dereth focus on ridding the land of the Olthoi, we can't help but wonder what lies on the horizon. Get the newest information on corpse clean-up, masks and fellowships!

Groundswell

Darkness concealed a man in the corner of the bar. He had arrived earlier in the evening, ordered a cask of ale, and been no more the bother. Cilla, the barmaid, had even forgotten about him. Then a tall man with lavender eyes and an odd gait came through the door and asked her for a man that fit his description. From within the shadow, he watched their interaction and knew that this was the man who wanted his help. Business was picking up, and he wasn't one to complain.

Pain erupted in her mind as hundreds of her children cried out in unison. The creature she hunted was nowhere to be found. It hid in a structure that could not be entered. It called littler creatures to serve it, to protect and defend it. They hurt her children.

Into The Darkness

Elysa stood on a balcony, unable to sleep. She saw nothing in the night but starsAlb'arel was behind her and Rez'arel had not yet risen. And yet she knew that, somewhere in the night, Asheron was instructing his golems to repair the damage done to his tower. Somewhere in the night, Antius scouted the new hives on her command. Somewhere in the night, in the darkness...the olthoi waited.

July, 2003: A Swelling Tide

This month's updates include new tinkering effects, appraisal panel additions, and thrown weapon changes.

Developer's Notes

She tested the walls of the tunnel, exerting pressure against the ceiling, pressing against the walls, all in an effort to ensure the safety of her children. Her workers had done well. She called to her eldest children and instructed them to organize their broods. The time to move was upon them.

A Swelling Tide

"Bollocks! I felt that one. Look at me armor." Gent bent down to pick up the pieces, and looked at Anton, whose ear was pressed firmly to the barroom floor. "What are you doing?"

"Listening," Anton responded, shushing him.

"To what?" Gent lowered himself down toward his friend.

"Don't know yet. But it sounds like something's moving; digging." He lifted his ear from the floor and looked at his friend with wide eyes. "Not something thousands of somethings."
